The main aim of the South African Centre for the Netherlands and Flanders in Pinelands, Cape Town, previously know as the Huis der Nederlanden, is to promote knowledge of and interest in the Low Countries, the two Dutch-speaking regions in Europe, Flanders and the Netherlands. Hence the plural in our name: ‘Huis der Nederlanden’.

The Centre serves the general public, as well as leaders in fields such as journalism, politics and business. You are welcome to contact us for information about all aspects of life in the Low Countries.

We regularly screen films and documentaries about the Low Countries. We organise guest speakers from the Netherlands and Flanders as well as discussions about current political and economic issues. We also organise lectures for schools, where we offer a special programme for young South Africans - showing young people the fun side of The Netherlands and Flanders and featuring information ideally suited for use in school projects.

The Centre promotes the language, culture, lifestyle and interests of the Dutch-speaking community in the Low Countries through presentations and talks and by distributing information, digitally or otherwise to South Africans. We also provide a platform for discussion on various subjects such as culture, society and politics in the Netherlands, Flanders and Europe, as well as on subjects of special interest to South Africans.

The Centre endeavours to increase appreciation of the culture and achievements of the Low Countries and to create contact between the cultures of the Dutch, the Flemish and South Africans. We cordially invite you to attend lectures, discussions or book presentations at the South African Centre for the Netherlands and Flanders.
